Feels like swedish steel, finer edge taking than heiji, maybe more pure? Similar hardness

Yanagiba: 300mm machi to tip, 35mm tall, 5mm spine at handle, 4mm halfway, 3mm shinogi at tip, 258g

Heavy yanagi, doesn't taper much, thick shinogi, not Sakai style

Kagekiyo Gokujo Sakura (Max)

Very positive initial impressions. Great f&f and balance. Definitely thin and feels nimble, on the shorter end of sakai 240s without a doubt. Very much looking forward to trying it as the grind is convex overall, with a small concave portion ~1cm from the edge.

Very interested to hear about this.

On first glance the right face (while cutting) looks almost full concave from the photos.

You have a credit card card handy?

The resolution isn’t that high for me - zooming in, it looks thin overall but not as thin behind the edge as those warnings in the miura website would suggest - is that fair to say?

Haha, no more so than any other laser-ish knife

I did hold it up to a flat edge to check the grind, but I’ll try to get a photo of this. Initial carrot cuts did not blow me away unfortunately :(, decent sticktion.

2 new knives for abstinence April.

The first is a tetsujin nakiri courtesy of @Simply . My wife oddly loves nakiris so this was an excuse to buy another knife

The second is Takada hamono courtesy of Takada San himself. Was fortunate to be in Japan for a couple of weeks and made a trip one morning from Osaka to Sakai. Super nice guy, he was very sorry that he didn't have more stock but I was glad to pick this one up. 240mm white #2

Good news - I checked with my lawyer and my self-imposed rectangle purchase ban doesn't apply to triangles or triangle derivatives 😆

So here's a fun one from our friends at @TokushuKnife . A modified takamura chromax santoku that's been given a more serviceable tip thanks to a skillful rhinoplasty. I think we can safely call it a bunka now. Gonna test it out for the first time tonight. Let the veggie games begin.
