SOAR, now called RecipeSource, Was created by the grad' student, Jennifer Snider Coopersmith at Berkeley in the year 2000. It is hosted on the University of California Berkeley server. It is a database of recipes from all over the world. It is very nicely indexed so if you are looking for a Chicken recipe from Ethiopia you can fine a number of great recipes.

The site has not been converted to HTTPS so your browser is going to tell you the end of civilization will happen if you open the site, but it's OK.:D

Here is a example. The national dish of Egypt, "Koushari". This recipe is the traditional one, now Chickpeas are added. It is a totally vegetarian dish.

It is served with Shatta (Levantine hot sauce). There are numerous recipes for it online. The real deal is fermented for a couple of days in the sun.

It is the European influence going back to ancient Roman times. This dish in one form or another is found all over the Eastern Mediterranean. The generic name for this dish is Mujadara. The variations go all of the way into the 'stan countries. wonderful and all very easy to make. In the 'stan countries, goat, mutton, or beef is added. Long grained rice like Basmati is used. Louisiana Popcorn rice is a Mississippi Delta Basmati cultiver and is fantastic.

A fun thing to do is use RecipeSource with the many food channels on Youtube. There are a lot of them out of Pakistan. First you need to figure out what they are making them look for the recipe for it is RecipeSource. You will see how intuitive the indexing is.

Here is a good example.
