It's time for spring cleaning, got some expenses and could use a bit of cash. Listing 2 knives. First is
232ishx49 Iron Clad B1, from Kama-Asa, forged by Tanaka, sharpened by Myojin.
I'd call this a midweight laser, classic myojin grind. Really cuts nice, and Tanaka's B1 is the best.
Pretty atypical for a Sakai knife, has a great distal taper.
Also I've seen some pretty bad variations of this knife...seen one as thin as 140g. This one is actually pretty great all around.
Bought from Kama Asa ~6 months ago, had a bit of use at home, but not much lately. Sharpened once or twice, never thinned.
The handle it came with was pretty awful with gaps and rough feeling. It is shown here with a tostadas shedua mono, I will likely be keeping the handle and can replace it with a comparable size ebony Migoto handle, or I have a hitohira cedar handle somewhere (or I can sell it without a handle)....If you want the tostadas handle let me know and we can work something out, but I'd prefer to keep it.
The cladding was SUPER reactive so I gave it alternating vinegar boils + sanding to get a nice etch on it. I meant to do more with the sanding but got lazy. I'd be willing to sand it off if requested. Has a nice patina forming on top of the etch.
Also, the tang was pretty irregular + strangely shaped so I ground it down with a belt sander. I have bad aim and went a bit too far past where the handle stops, so there are some scratches on the neck of the knife. Could be removed with a sandpaper progression but didn't care enough to ever do it.
Specs:
Length: 232ish mm
Height at heel: 49mm
Weight: 177g with current handle which weighs 44g
Spine thickness at handle: 4.2mm
Spine thickness middle: 2.3mm
Spine thickness ~1cm from tip: .7mm
Asking $450 including shipping to US. Happy to ship internationally and will include the first $15 of shipping.
It you bundle with the 210 Tanaka x Yohei that I'm about to list, I'll take off $30 total.
Thanks!
